Walking down Van Ness at Olive the other day I snapped the following picture of what appears to be a new business:
The interior of the building is being renovated, so I couldn’t tell what kind of business “Bloo” is exactly; I figured it must be a novelty shop similar to the one that was there previously.
However, a search of “Bloo” on Google turns up a Yelp page that identifies the business as a hookah lounge with late evening hours. Surprising, because that sign doesn’t suggest hookah bar to me — maybe it’s supposed to be pronounced “bloooow.”
Has anyone heard anything about Bloo?

An old college acquaintance of mine is opening the place. It’s a hookah bar. I’m curious as to how it’s all going to go down too. Should be, at the very least, interesting.

Anthony, if you’re close with the owners, you should tell them to purchase the domain if they’re going to list it on their Yelp page. Unscrupulous people take opportunities like that to domain squat.
the exterior was extensively remodeled. the storefront used to be recessed, and the back patio area was basically a lean-to. it a nice upgrade to a lonely building.
It is kind of lonely, isn’t it?
I work just across the street from this location (well close enough anyway). I have watched the renovation and have to say that I think its a great location. Its within walking distance of everything in the Tower District and will offer a great little social spot. I look forward to seeing it open.
